| Graphic Arts |
 |
The foundations for the collection of graphic arts of the Tartu Art Museum were laid in 1941, and the collection has grown steadily ever since through new purchases as well as donations. It includes wood engravings by Arkadio Laigo, Hando Mugasto, Ella Mätik and Ernst Kollom, and picturesque etchings by Aino Bach and Salome Trei.
Over the years the number of works by Eduard Wiiralt has also increased. |

| During the period of rapid development of contemporary national graphic art in the 1960s and 1970s, the museum bought approximately 2000 graphic sheets. Among these, the best are the works created using various techniques by Vive Tolli, Kaljo Põllu, Peeter Ulas, Herald Eelma, Ilmar Torn, Evi Tihemets, Silvi Liiva, Marju Mutsu, Naima Neidre, Marje Üksine and others. During recent years, the collection has grown with graphic sheets by Raul Meel and Leonhard Lapin. In addition to the work of older masters, the museum buys works by younger artists from exhibitions or directly from artists themselves (e.g. Mall Nukke, Virge Jõekalda, Urmas Viik, Ly Lestberg and others). |

| Although the main trend has been the collection of Estonian graphic art, the collection also includes West European and Baltic German art by August Hagen, Karl August Senff, Friedrich Schlater, Louis Höflinger, August Clara and others. In the beginning of the 1950s works by Russian Soviet graphic artists were also acquired, including such rare examples as Natalia Gontcharova and Mikhail Larionov. |
